About us From the editor
September is when the year really begins—this
is probably true in many places, but especially
so in Buffalo. When you think about it,
January doesn’t bring much excitement. Many
start the year off thinking about things like:
-getting in shape and maintaining a healthier lifestyle
-winterizing homes and vehicles and saving for taxes
It’s kind of depressing. On the other hand, September brings
a much more powerful sense of starting fresh, with new seasons
beginning in almost every area: schools, professional sports,
theater, galleries, and the social scene in general. September
is when you have to reluctantly give up the idea of getting to
every play or exhibition opening on any given weekend. Sep-
tember is when the balmy end-of-summer weather still allows
for fun gatherings outdoors, such as Curtain Up!, the Olmsted
gala/Party for the Parks or the Zoo’s new harvest celebration
(all included in this issue).
With that in mind, this issue encourages readers to get an
–tasting a cuisine you’ve never had before and maybe had
infusion of September energy by:
-(obviously) attending Curtain Up! on September 15. All the
shows and the reasons each one might be interesting are listed
on pages 38–39. Or you can just go to the party.
never heard of—see our Global Cuisine selection on page 53.
–choosing a updating project that will make you feel better
about where you live. Get inspired by reading the current edi-
tion of Spree Home on page 81.
